Course Description:
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Explain the latest developments with respect to
industry guidelines and Class requirements

Participants must have completed the DP Basic and
Advanced course..
CONTENT
• System arrangements and Class requirements
• Human Machine Interface, all main functions and
views
• Planning – Risk and safety analysis
• FMEA
• Participation in simulated situations in a variety of
DP operations while handling routine and emergency situations
• Developments in the DP control software
• Sensor handling and sensor views
• Position reference systems
• The DP system’s utilisation of position measurements and tests on position reference systems
• New developments in Kongsberg DP systems and
position reference systems
• DP incidents and incident reporting
• Thruster and Power configuration according to
the DP Class
LEARNING PROCESS
The training will be a combination of theoretical
lessons and practical exercises. The participants will
work with practical scenarios based on real operations, training on planning and executing specified
operations under varying simulated conditions.
During the operations, typical DP failure modes will
be included. Realistic communication with the field
centre, other vessels and different onboard departments is also included. The scenarios will be run on
a redundant DP system in a bridge-like environment
connected to an advanced simulator control.

ASSESSMENT
A level test will be conducted at the beginning of the
course. Planning (toolbox talk and risk assessment),
briefing and de-briefing of various field exercises
according to the existing guidelines, regulations, and
industry standards.
Repetition of necessary DP theory to close any
knowledge gap the students may have in these
Course aims
- The course is intended for those who have already been issued a DPO Certificate from The NI and required to refresh their knowledge about DP or need to completed high DP simulator because they are on DP 24/7 The overall course aim is to update the DOs with the latest rules and regulations, position references and sensors, known DP incidents and lessons learned. At the end of the course, the student should:
6.1 Have acquired knowledge of the latest rules and regulations.
6.2 Have acquired knowledge of the latest developments within sensors and PRS.
6.3 Have acquired knowledge of the latest relevant DP incidents and why they occurred.
6.4 Be able to recognize the various alarm, warning and information messages.
6.5 Be able to carry out operational planning, risk assessment and hazard identification tasks.
6.6 Be able to set up the DP system for a particular task/operation.
6.7 Be able to decide on courses of action because of systems failure.
